IDENTIFICATION OF THE YEAR GROUP
 
Year 7 at Rushcliffe School is a big step as it’s the introductory year to the secondary phase of education for each of our students. It’s an exciting year as our students await many extra opportunities in both an extended curriculum and extra curricular activities.
 
AIMS OF THE YEAR TEAM
 
  • To ensure successful and positive transition from KS2 to KS3 (primary to secondary stage)
  • To provide support and guidance to each of our students
  • To develop balanced form groups that give students the opportunity to widen their friendship groups
  • To celebrate success and achievement within the year group
  • For students to have the opportunity of an activity day at Walesby to strengthen friendships and tutor relations (in the Autumn Term)
 
HOW ACHIEVEMENT IS SUPPORTED AND CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
 
  • Year 7 assemblies have an achievement focus
  • Achievement notice boards will be in place for each year group
  • Form notice boards help to celebrate achievements
  • Year 7 have an achievement evening as a result of nominations by teaching staff
  • Commendations
 
THE PSHCE PROGRAMME
 
Year 7 students will have a weekly PSHCE lesson with their tutor and form group. This programme of work will include the following areas
 
  • Transition from Primary to Secondary and an introduction to Rushcliffe School
  • Friendship / building relationships
  • Bullying issues
  • Families / self protection
  • Changes at puberty / social emotional changes
  • Students set termly action plans in their Personal Organisers
  • Tutors and parents should regularly review and sign their students’ Personal Organisers (weekly)
 
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE YEAR
 
  • PTA – Year 7 Disco
  • Walesby Activity Day
  • Year 7 involved in assemblies
  • Year 7 Achievement Evening
  • Year 7 Sporting opportunities
  • Year 7 One World Day – students get the opportunity to be involved in 4 cultural activities (e.g. Indian dance, Caribbean Story Telling)
