Year 7 is a very special year for the young people who join us. It marks the move from a relatively small school to a much larger one. Their new environment is quite different from their earlier one but there is one thing their old and new school have in common.. supporting their personal development and their enjoyment for and success in learning.
Our purpose is to make their first year an enjoyable and positive experience. This then prepares them for the years ahead as they 'go on' to achieve more and more success.

Our Transition activities involve a range of experiences and very effective liaison with our feeder schools.
- The activities begin in Year 5 when pupils visit Rushcliffe School and take part in Science and Technology events.
- This is then bulit on in Year 6 when the headteacher and some of our students visit the family of schools and others in the area to give assemblies.
- Further familiarisation activities take place in the Summer term when Year 7 pupils visit our local schools and share more information about 'life at Rushcliffe School'. These activities are complemented by a visit to us to have a day's lessons.
- During the Summer term, members of our English and Mathematics departments will visit local schools and take a lesson. They set up a cross phase project which begins in the Primary schools and is built on at Rushcliffe.
- Their Head of Year 7 will also visit schools giving assemblies and continue to set the scene for 'life at Rushcliffe School'.

Year 5 Information Day
This is a further extension of our Primary Liaison programme and complements the Science and Technology visits. As a response to the ever-increasing number of enquiries from parents of pupils in Year 5 to find out more about Rushcliffe, the Leadership Team hosted this new addition to the calendar. We welcomed a large number of parents who will soon be starting to make choices about secondary education.

220 enthusiastic children from our Family of Schools spent a morning with Science and Technology teachers, finding out more about Rushcliffe School and learning new skills with various hands-on activities.
They all seemed to enjoy their experience, as did their Year 5 class teachers and the Rushcliffe staff. We were sorry to see them go, but look forward to many of them joining us in September 2006. |

Year 6 Induction Day
This annual event comprises a day at school for pupils and an evening presentation for parents. Year 6 pupils started the day feeling nervous and excited and finished feeling reassured that everything will be fine in Year 7 at Rushcliffe.
They met their Head of Year and Form Tutor and enjoyed the challenge of a series of typical lessons. In the evening parents found out more about activities on offer, uniform requirements, day to day issues and the role of the Pastoral Guidance programme and Pupil Support Unit. Again, this was another important opportunity to meet parents and form positive relationships |

Open Evenings
These support parents as they choose an appropriate secondary school for their children. We offer:
- An information evening for year 5 parents.
- An open evening at the beginning of year 6.
- An induction evening for those parents who have chosen Rushcliffe School in the Summer term of year 6.
Parents are always welcome to phone the school to obtain information or be shown round if they wish.
