Trip to Paris

The trip to Paris allowed a number of Year 8 pupils to visit La Villette and further develop their Science language skills was a great success. Mr Imrie and two pupils share their experience of the trip below:

After an early start from Rushcliffe, we arrived in Paris for our evening meal. Vegetarians were superbly catered for as usual in Paris with a plate of just pasta. We were up early the next day for La Villette which is a large science museum on the outskirts of Paris . In the museum pupils were able to visits lots of exhibits such as the planetarium, a 3D cinema, an aquarium as well as getting involved with lots of interactive activities. On the third day we went to Paris and did the usual tourist things. We went up the Eiffel Tower , had lunch at the Louvre, went up the Arc de Triomphe and walked down the Champs Elysees . In the evening we went to a restaurant to sample more chicken and chips and finished off the evening with a boat trip along the River Seine . The Year 8 pupils were a credit to the school and have learned more about Science as well as improved their language skills.”

Day 1

We got on the coach at the early unbearable hour of 6.00 a.m. Everyone was so excited but we were all too tired to show it. I think most people fell asleep. At Dover , the White Cliffs were amazing but we didn't feel so good on the ferry, as it was rocking around and making everyone feel ill. We went to find somewhere to sit and eat our lunch. When we went out on the deck, it was cold and wet but we could see France . We had to get back on the coach and drive into France . We were all so excited!

When we arrive at the hotel everybody was tired, hungry but also hyper at the fact we had arrived. We ate spaghetti that night and had showers and got tucked up in bed. But I don't think anyone got to sleep for a while…

Day 2

After a day of travelling we were all ready excited on the first day of our trip.

When we got up we had a French breakfast of baguette, croissants and pain au chocolat. We all got on the coach and set off to La Villete, the Science Museum . When we got there we wandered round, there was lot's of interactive things to do. There were also two gift shops and an aquarium; we also had something to eat for lunch.

Next we went on a walk round the lake and round some of Paris . When we got back we went to the 3D cinema and put our yellow 3D glasses and watched the film about sea creatures.

After that we went to the planetarium which was also really good.

Day 3

This was the life! Driving around Paris ! Everyone kept trying to see the Eiffel Tower but kept mistaking it for pointing buildings! The bus made a circle around L'Arc de Triomph and passed the amazing buildings towards the Eiffel Tower . The queues for the lifts were long but fast moving and next thing we knew we were zooming up Le tour du Eiffel. The top was amazing, must have been the highlight of the trip. The city of old and new, of love and fashion, right before our eyes! But all this sight seeing had made us hungry so we went off to the Louvre for some shopping and lunch. After one hour of blissful shopping we actually went to the Arc du Triomphe. I can proudly say I've climbed up and down the 233 steps, or was it 244! We walked down the Champ Elysees. It had been a long day and we were ready to dine out. The restaurant was nice and the food was yummy. It must have been nine o'clock in the evening when we got on the boat. Every time we passed another boat we all frantically waved and every time we passed under a bridge we all stood up, I think even the teachers did. It was FREEZING! But cool to see the beauties of Paris at night-time, from the Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower . We had the best day of our school lives, and one to remember for the rest of ours!
