Working with our feeders

Throughout the year, Mrs Markland and Mr Imrie have been teaching science lessons to year 5 groups in the Rushcliffe feeder schools.

A series of 4 lessons is being taught at each primary school on the subject of acid rain. Pupils are finding out how acid rain is made and what effects it has on the environment.

In each lesson children get to do a practical activity that they would not normally get to do in their primary school. These have included testing materials with chemical indicators, making natural indicators and testing them with solutions, testing acid rain with indicators selected by the pupils and observing the effect of acid rain on limestone.

To finish their work on acid rain, pupils have to design a car that will not produce any gases that could cause acid rain. This has given us some excellent creative work which will be displayed on the website at a future date. All children have been given a Rushcliffe School pencil case to reward them for their hard work. The best workers will be given a more scientific prize at a future date.
