K.S. 4 Year 10 Full GCSE ( Chosen in options)

This requires the students to complete 3 projects, the final one being the creation of a complete system for a travel agent. There are two final written exams. The first two projects will be completed in the ½ GCSE time (1 lesson per week in year 10). The third project will be started in year 10 with a view to having it completed by Christmas Year 11. The main (3 rd ) project will be based around a travel agency and the students will need to create a database system for the company. Theory work will take place throughout the course but the concentration will be in the Spring term in year 11.

 
K.S 5 AS exam Year 12 Information Technology

A major piece of project work based either in Microsoft Excel or Macromedia Dreamweaver and two written exams.

A2 exam Year 13
A major piece of coursework based on Microsoft Access and two written exams
 
Assessment at K.S 3
 
Assessment at K.S 3 is generally determined by the quality and quantity of the work produced by the students while undertaking the set tasks. Teachers will examine students' work and make a judgement based on what they have done. These will be reported to the student either in written form or orally. The assessment will usually include a target for the student to try to improve the quality of the work. The assessment will usually be in the form of a K.S. number 3-7 followed by a letter a, b or c - 5a being higher than 5c. A plus +, equals = or letter U indicate whether the student is working above +, on = or below their current expected level U. At the end of K.S. 3 students will be given an overall grade based on their current progress - this will be a number 3 - 7
 
Assessment at K.S. 4
 
Assessment at K.S. 4 is based on the criteria set by the examination boards. For ICT we use OCR and they provide a list of expectations that the teachers are expected to use to determine the mark or grade the student receives
 
Generally work will be graded with the GCSE grades A* - U but some work, as shown above may be graded in numbers as these numbers determine the grade. Students will be told how these two values match up. Eg There is a total possible mark of 7. To be on the road to a C grade you must have at least 4 marks. As this work is straightforward I would expect most students to have 5/7
 

At the end of courses students will sit external exams:

In full GCSE they will sit two exams at either Foundation (Max grade C) or Higher (Max grade A*). Three pieces of project work are required. The projects count for 60% of the final mark; the exam counts for 40%.

 

Assessment at K.S.5
 

Assessment at K.S.5 is generally done using the grades for the final exams i.e. A-U. However some sections such as project work are based on numbers which translate into final letter grades.
