History beyond the classroom

We believe that pupils at Rushcliffe should have the opportunities to experience how History effects the world around us. We take pupils on many visits to places of historical interest so that learning about History can take place beyond the classroom.

Year 8
In year 8 pupils visit the Black Country Museum to support teaching and learning.

The museum brings the past back to life. Click on the link to find out more.

Year 9

In year 9 the History Department organizes a trip to the Battlefields of Belgium.
Pupils experience the conditions of trench warfare and visit the war graves of the fallen soldiers.

Search the records of the Commonwealth Graves Commission, can you trace someone from your family?

In Year 9 pupils also have the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester.

This excellent museum allows pupils to explore how wars and conflict affect people's lives.

GCSE - Years 10 & 11

In year 10 pupils complete 'History around us' coursework based on the Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum.

Click on the icon to visit the museum's website.

To support the 'Medicine Through Time' unit, pupils visit the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds.
The Museum provides a hands-on tour of medicine through the ages, from medieval potions to today's operating tables.

AS/A2 Level - Year 12 & 13

To support both the AS and A2 Level History courses, pupils in year 12 and 13 are offered the chance to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg.

This exciting trip provides a fantastic opportunity to experience Russian history first hand.
